Increase Your Search Engine Traffic

Posted on October 30th, 2007 in Internet | No Comments »

After several years of working in this industry, I still can’t believe the number of so-called experts who pop up out of nowhere, trying to sell their “experience” and “knowledge” to newbie webmasters who want to increase search engine traffic for their websites. The business of search engine optimization has seen an entire consulting industry develop around the concept of tweaking and overhauling webpages just to get them on top of the search engine results page – and hopefully attract more traffic. But people who try their hardest to get higher rankings in search pages through deception don’t get the obvious fact that they can get the same results without resorting to trickery.

Here’s how you do it:

First, you have to focus on writing quality content. This means working on producing fresh content that’s relevant and easy to read. You must also take into account the titles, topics, and the URLs as well. For your title, make them short and snappy. To quickly get an idea of what an ideal title should be, just skim the latest copy of your RSS feed. Take note of the titles that catch your attention and keep it in mind when writing titles. Another important thing – if you have a blog and you get titles like My Blog Title | My Post Title, make sure to change it to read My Post Title | My Blog Title.

If ever you need great ideas for your next content, just browse the popular bookmarked contents on Digg and http://del.icio.us, to name a few. This will give you a great idea about what people want to read or what they are linking to. Also, never ignore the power of lists and how-to articles. These types of content always make good linkbait, which means more people will link to it, which corresponds into increased search engine traffic for you.

Second, make it easy for your visitors to link to you and submit your content to social news sites and wherever else they want to. If you have a blog, you can also find some great widgets to do the work for you, with only a few minor tweaks here and there. As much as possible, make sure that your URLs contain important keywords in them. URLs will be among the first things that gets recorded by the search engine spiders, you know. Aside from that, people also have a habit of copy-pasting whole URLs into comment boxes, posts, forums, etc. The links that are generated from these contain valuable keywords that lead to your site directly from authoritative sites, which spells even more search engine traffic.

Third, expand your network. If you don’t have a blog, try creating one. If you’re not interested in building a blog or just don’t have time, you can still visit and leave comments on other blogs related to your website’s niche. Aside from blogs, there are forums, e-zines, newsletters, and groups – a whole slew of online communities with unimaginable potential. But don’t forget to give also in return for what you take. Participate actively and share your ideas and thoughts. The rewards could be greater than you expected.

Increase Online Traffic On Weekends

Posted on October 28th, 2007 in Internet | No Comments »

You might have gotten used to seeing hundreds or thousands of visitors on your site everyday, but you’ve also noticed a significant decrease in traffic every weekend. Experienced webmasters have learned to cope with this occurrence and not fuss about it, but for the beginner, seeing a considerable dip in his site statistics on a weekend day may be cause for alarm.

The reason for this is simple: fewer people use the Internet on weekends as compared to weekdays. Most websites – yes, even the popular ones – do experience a drop in traffic figures on Saturdays and Sundays, simply because a lot less people are on the Web searching for information or visiting websites and blogs for fresh content. But if you’re really into maintaining your traffic status quo regardless of what day of the week it is, then I have prepared a few hints and tips that might be useful.

Use the Social Sites – A healthy dose of interaction with people in social communities will provide a big boost to your site’s weekend traffic. Try posting on forums or blogs that are relevant to your niche. Social networks like Facebook, Multiply, Friendster, and MySpace can be extremely useful, as well as news sites like Digg, Reddit, and the like. If you have a blog, sites like BlogCatalog or MyBlogLog will be great venues, too. There are always a lot of people in sites like these. Plug your site in the right places and in the right way, and you can expect to see visitors on the weekends.

News on Weekends - Since I’ve already mentioned news sites like Digg and Reddit, I might as well expand on the topic a little more. If you can regularly add fresh content to your website during or just before the weekends and promote it on popular sites like Reddit, Digg, http://del.icio.us, and StumbleUpon, it will allow your own website to get increased traffic even after weekdays. Why? Social news sites like the ones I’ve mentioned above generally get lesser news on a Saturday or Sunday than they usually do during weekdays, so your new posts will get more attention.

Bloghopping – Actually, don’t just jump from blog to blog; leave some comments, too. True, a lot of blogs don’t update during weekends, but who says you can’t leave comments on them anyway? And there are still several blogs that do update even on a weekend. Look for the ones that usually get relatively high traffic, read the posts, then leave a relevant comment. You’d be surprised at the amount of traffic this method can bring to your website!

Post or Publish On Weekends – If other blogs or websites don’t update their content on weekends, be the one that does! Yes, it’s true that fewer people use the Internet during weekends, but those people will appreciate seeing fresh content on your site and on their RSS feeds when they log on. If you yourself cannot find the time to post something new on a weekend, just prepare it in advance and future publish it for a Saturday or Sunday even.

There you go! If you have the time or the inclination to go for increased online traffic even on weekends, these ideas might be of help to you. Just drop me a line what you think of it or if it has helped you increase your online traffic in any way!

Three Strategies To Increase Website Traffic

Posted on October 25th, 2007 in Internet | No Comments »

No matter what your real purpose is for having a website, the fact remains that you want traffic to it. Perhaps you put up a website to establish an online venue for your friends and family to get together and share messages, photographs, and whatnot. Or perhaps you’re an online entrepreneur looking to market your business’ products or services to Internet users. Whatever its purpose, a website needs traffic – the more traffic, the better.

But a perennial problem remains: how do you increase website traffic? Aside from shelling out money for those “traffic building” packages or paying for links (which is getting to be really hazardous to your website’s page rankings and overall standing with Google), there are still several strategies for driving traffic to your website – and keeping them there. I’m going to present you with a few good ones:

Keyword Searches – There are several keyword tools on the Internet that can help you increase web site traffic, if you know how to use them properly. I’m talking about tools like Yahoo!’s KW Selector Tool, Wordtracker, KWDiscovery, and Google’s KW Tool, to name a few. Using these tools, you can search for high-traffic keywords or phrases that have some relevance to your business or website, but with very little or no advertisers using them at all. These keywords will help you develop your business’ brand and your website’s exposure to search engines.

Just be sure to provide your visitors with the kind of content they’re looking for – whether in the form of listed resources, articles, multimedia, or the like. Doing so will help your site get the best kind of publicity there is in the form of viral marketing – where word of mouth about the quality of your site spreads like wildfire, bringing more traffic to your website and keeping them there.

Controversy is the Key – Sometimes emotions get the better of people, especially when they see, hear, or read about something that they strongly feel about. In this case, why not channel these emotions into traffic for your website? Your main targets will be impassioned and (sometimes) overzealous Internet users who harbor strong feelings about a particular topic. Just generate controversial content using articles, blog posts, videos, or statistical reports (whichever method is applicable).

After generating this content, you must be ready to defend your position through blog posts, comments, forums, and anything else that could be useful or appropriate. If done effectively, this method will increase web site traffic for you through various sources, but most of it may come directly from the individual or organization you challenged. Make sure that you handle all feedback and discussions in a professional manner, though. Doing so will allow you to develop a respectable persona online, even with those whom you are disagreeing with.

Cover Important Events – Of course, the type of event varies according to your particular interests and the niche of your website. Gaming expos, tech shows, the like – all can be taken advantage of to bring great and updated content to your website, and droves of traffic along with it. Try to cover the event as much as possible by taking pictures, shooting some videos, making new friends and acquaintances, and taking detailed notes all the while.

Of course, make sure that everyone knows you’re going to feature all this stuff on your site within the next few days (the sooner the better). You can really increase website traffic through this method, and the amount of traffic you can get may vary from hundreds to thousands, and maybe even tens of thousands. It all depends on the popularity and size of the event itself. As an additional tip, underground or exclusive events make for better coverage – but be sure to get permission first.

There are a lot more excellent strategies to increase website traffic, and I’m pretty sure you know a few others already. Effective use of these methods will allow you to see a boost to your website traffic for a long time to come.

Get More Website Traffic

Posted on October 23rd, 2007 in Internet | No Comments »

One of the biggest problems that new webmasters have to face is how to get more website traffic as soon as possible – and keeping it. Actually, even a lot of veteran webmasters with several years of website and/or blogging experience have to contend with this problem as well. It’s no wonder that a whole new industry was born out of a single, concentrated need: getting more traffic to your site. Indeed, it seems that getting more and more traffic has become sort of a “Holy Grail” or a quest for webmasters.

I am not sure when or how it actually happened, but people have realized that just because you built it doesn’t mean it automatically counts. With the growth of the World Wide Web that has exploded into over a million websites and blogs, Internet users need a good reason to visit your site, and even more reasons to keep coming back. Without any idea of how or where to start, a newbie webmaster will definitely be lost before he can even get started with this task of generating traffic.

There exists a lot of solutions to this traffic generation problem, actually. You can do it the easy way and buy traffic from online vendors. This will result in your website being hit from all angles with automated programs. However, keep in mind that you’re only getting hits from machines, not real people. Your stats will jump, but your sales probably won’t.

A lot of people try setting up multiple websites or blogs that connect to your main site. This is actually a very effective way to build up your hit count, but only if your site’s content makes for excellent reading or viewing. Without quality content, your site will soon stagnate, and all the other connecting sites and blogs with it. If your site has quality content, then this should be no problem for you.

Another popular technique is utilizing the power of RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds. Create an RSS feed for your website and subscribe to others as well. Make sure that these other feeds are somehow related to your site’s niche, to get better results. However, this method has the same caveat attached to it as that of the multiple sites technique I have mentioned above, and that is to make sure that your site’s RSS feed provides interesting and quality content to your subscribers; otherwise, it’s pretty useless.

Although I haven’t used this next technique, I should mention it for the sake of variety. Traffic exchanges are another good source of traffic for sites, but although they can pile up the hits on your counter, most of the time the people visiting your site cannot be considered as targeted traffic. They are just there because of the credits they are getting from the traffic exchange program. If you are running an e-commerce website and this method is your only way of getting traffic, then I’m telling you now that you are doomed to fail.

There are a few side benefits of traffic exchanges, though. It can increase your website’s Alexa rating, which is factored in by some search engines when ranking your site. Thus, a higher Alexa rating may produce higher search engine placements, which in turn could translate into more targeted traffic this time around.

Free Reprint Articles That Will Interest Publishers - 4 Tips

Posted on October 21st, 2007 in Writing | No Comments »

Have you been writing and submitting your free reprint articles for quite sometime now?

If so, how is your reprint rate doing? Is it doing well or is it a bit below 50%? Are webmasters approving your articles?

Here are some tips on how to write effective free reprint articles that would guarantee great interest from ezine publishers and webmasters.

1. Choose a good keyword

A good keyword is your “key” to getting high reprint rates for even just a single article. Try using this tool at http://www.wordtracker.com/ to find the best keywords.

2. Keyword density

Keyword density is the number of “keywords” found in an article or content which is then divided by the total number of words. Try to keep your keyword density at 5% to 7% maximum especially if you choose common keywords for your article. Keyword density is important because this is one of the things search engines look into when they rank the search results.

Do not try to make your article an article for search engines, make them full of quality, informative but still search engine optimized.

3. Shorter word count

Publishers or webmasters often love articles that are less than 1000 words, but it totally depends on the topic and how informative is your article. Try not to go around the bush and result to making your article at 1800+ words. In other words, do not make it like a short story. A good article may only have at least 250 words, but could still capture the reader’s attention and have the attributes mentioned in numbers 1 and 2 above.

4. Good content

You wrote a 700-word article with good keywords and keyword density, but does it contain good content? Well, only you can answer that truthfully and if your answer is yes, then great! But for some few inviduals this isn’t the fact, many are still writing articles that editors label as an “indirect” advert. If you really want a good reprint rate then make your article body 100% of quality information, tips, how-tos and tricks. Keep the 100% advert in your bylines and keep them short.

Good luck and enjoy writing!
