What is the most time consuming work in building a fiber network

Two works are usually the largest line items in an fiber optic network installation budget: pulling the fiber optic cables and terminating or splicing the cables.

When pulling the fiber cables, you must observe the minimum bending radius of the cable, prepare the cable ends with a pulling eye kit, and filling the conduit with lubricant to minimize the damage risk to the cables.

Single-source Documentation - Docbook Versus DITA

Posted on February 28th, 2008 in Computers and Technology | No Comments »

When it comes to documentation projects, primarily technical, medical, and scientific, using XML is a no-brainer. The heavy thinking comes when deciding which flavor of XML to use: DocBook or DITA (Darwin Information Typing Architecture). I have been a steadfast supporter of DocBook for over six years. I’d tried my hand at DITA and gave it up as a fad; lots of bells and whistles, but too complicated to integrate. And couldn’t DocBook do everything DITA promised anyway?

Does Size Matter? The Bigger The Booth The Higher The Traffic?

Posted on February 28th, 2008 in Internet | No Comments »

A question that many contend with is the question involving what size they should make their trade show display. Does size really matter? Is a bigger booth going to yield more traffic? Of course it does! A bigger booth is going to get more attention than a small booth. The small booths tend to be sandwiched in between other small booths or larger booths and the larger booth is naturally going to get the most attention. As a matter of fact, those visiting trade shows are more likely to visit the larger booths first and save the smaller booths for last if they have time. You don’t want to be one of those saved for last. You want to be one of those booths visited when visitors are fresh to make decisions. The weary browser is less likely to purchase more items and sometimes by the time they get to the end of the show, their pockets are empty anyway.

When you go to internet websites that activate pop-up screens in your browser, what you usually see are text and picture combinations that you usually ignore and close immediately because they are bothersome and not really interesting. You do pause and look at the pop-up screen if it contains some animated pictures or flashing images. When you pass by a store that sells television sets while walking, you look at the screens that have something playing or displayed in them. Between these comparisons, you will find the difference between still and animated images in terms of grabbing a person’s attention.
